Our Purpose
|
An Evangelizing Church
The Bible instructs us to "Go Fishing". Sounds like a good time, doesn't it? It sounds even better when we see ourselves as fishers of men. Not only must our arms and hearts be always open to those in search of the truth, but as followers of the Risen Lord, we must stand ready to share the definition of truth with our brothers and sisters. The apostle Paul said in the book of Romans, "I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ." At Southern Oaks, we're not either. And we want to share the gospel with everyone. Let us share it with you, today. (Matthew 4:18-20)

A Serving Church
"I want to make a difference." Haven't we all thought or said that at least once in our lives? Well, here is your chance. At Southern Oaks, there are more opportunities for service than you can probably imagine. Whether it be serving in one of our "in-house" activities or programs, or reaching out to the community through service to nursing homes, hospitals, Meals on Wheels, mission trips, or any countless number of ministries - there's a place for you to serve. You can make a difference. You can touch a life. And we can show you how. (John 13:5)

A Fellowshipping Church
Fellowship is something we do often and, if we may say so, extremely well. Through Sunday School socials, church-wide social events, and recreational events that include trips to Rangers and Stars games and even ski vacations, you're sure to make new friends and have a great time in the process. And when the situation calls for it, we always have plenty of good food - so bring your appetite! Regardless of your age or status, this is a part of church life you will not want to miss. (Eccleslastcs 4:9-12)

A Teaching Church
The study of the Bible is essential to becoming a strong Christian. At Southern Oaks, we offer a full age group graded Sunday School where everyone gets involved studying God's Word. Whether you're seven or seventy, you'll find a program that ministers to your need for deeper understanding, and does so in terms relevant to your age and life experience. We also offer opportunities for more intensive study through our Discipleship Training and various independent Bible Study Programs. So if it's knowledge you seek, you couldn't do much better. We offer more than chicken soup for your soul. We'll feed your mind, as well. (Psalms 25:4-5)

A Worshiping Church
We worship the one true God in many ways. We have four weekly worship services. Our 8:30 Sunday Morning service features the contemporary music of our Praise Team. Or, you may prefer our 11:00am Sunday service, where the Celebration Choir helps us worship using traditional church music. Everyone meets back on Sunday evening at 6:30, where in the past our music has ranged from Bluegrass to live Orchestral arrangements and nearly everything in between. At 6:30 on Wednesday evenings, we meet and worship in a more intimate way as we gather and pray for one another and our own special needs and requests. Yes, worship may take many forms. But the common ingredient is that whenever we worship - however we worship - our goal is to meet the Lord, and spend a little time in His presence. Can anything be much better than that? (Revelation 4:11)
